Want an unusual holiday in the Dordogne, how to find your rental?
You want to book a vacation in the Dordogne… For a night, a weekend or a week’s vacation, an unusual accommodation rental will enchant your stay. Quite simply because it’s original, because there’s a little thrill linked to the unknown, and because it will leave you with a memory that you won’t be able to forget, because it will be completely unique! Provided, of course, that you choose your type of accommodation and also the campsite where it is located. Because sometimes behind the unusual can hide unpleasant surprises. So, cabin, yurt, or chalet?
Unusual holidays in the Dordogne: what sets them apart from the others?
The concept is relatively new, but it has quickly been adopted. France and in particular Périgord is full of them! This phenomenon is linked to the fact that vacationers are thirsty for new experiences, to be able to experience a natural break in their lives, to almost find themselves in someone else’s shoes. Small selection:
-Robin Hood in a treehouse
-Steppe nomad in a yurt
-American Indian in teepee
-Roaming in a trailer
-VIP in its lodge with private spa
-Dreamer of stars for a night in a transparent bubble
-Hobbit in a round buried house
-Or a fisherman in his floating cabin on the calm waters of a lake
The list is long, such is the imagination of rental creators! The important thing is that we leave there with dreams in our heads, great photos in our cameras, and shared memories for a long time.
As a couple or as a family, the unusual?
Because the unusual can be shared, it can be discovered together! As a couple, or as a family, of course!
As a couple, whether you’re romantic or not, it’s really an opportunity to get out of the daily routine to (re)discover the excitement of being with your lover. (re)discover him or her, perhaps, too. From another angle, in the light of this somewhat magical place.
And with family… but what a pleasure to see the eyes shining with happiness of the children who have been given a surprise and who understand, without really daring to believe it, that tonight, they are going to sleep in this cabin right there- high! Children’s dreams are big, but when they live their dreams, it becomes downright huge! They will never forget, even if they are little, the weekend they spent and which will go down as one of the best memories.
The unusual is not necessarily just the accommodation, it can also be the theme of the stay. Tourism is moving a lot at the moment and more and more areas are offering themed stays. So don’t hesitate to choose a transgenerational offer and discover your family in a new light!
How not to be “had”?
Rental ads are sometimes misleading, or don’t tell everything.
It’s up to you to prepare for the next family weekend. You have opted for an unusual night in Périgord, so you must not go wrong, but how can you choose with all these announcements! The answer is: call to find out! Ask lots of questions, and if the interlocutor is not precise in their answers, or they seem doubtful to you, try your luck elsewhere.
I’ll give you some examples:
-you are going to spend a night in a bubble, and ultimately it turns out to be a disastrous experience because the blower motor is right next to it, it is very noisy, and you do not sleep a wink all night ! But not because of the stars that you no longer want to look at… “Finally, you would have been much better off at the hotel to relax”, you say to yourself, only half-smiling when you see the next day the extent of the damage in the bathroom mirror.
My opinion: you need to know how a bubble works and find out about the sound insulation of the wind tunnel
-you are going for a weekend in a yurt with your 3 children. Upon arrival you understand that it is going to be less idyllic than expected. The yurt is at the bottom of the valley, there is mold on the walls, and in the evening all the sweaters are not enough to warm the troop as the humidity is so high. The next day, all the children cough. Great weekend!
My opinion: you need to find out where the yurt is located
-you come for a week in a tree house, the photos are enchanting. When you arrive there, you notice that the interior is aging, the shower deteriorated, the bedding exploded, the furniture downright ugly. Phew, end of the dream.
My opinion: look at the opinions of other customers!
Where to go in Périgord for an unusual weekend?
The Dordogne, a region richly wooded with magnificent oaks, is well endowed with estates which offer tree houses, for example the Tree Castles at Nojals and Clotte (Périgord pourpre), the Treehouses near Sarlat (Périgord Noir) or the perched cabins of Moulin de Surier or Bost (Périgord Pourpre).
The Pomponaise caravans in Saint Pompont – or Saint Pompon, it’s the same! – (Périgord Noir) and the Jeanne cabins (Périgord Noir) welcome those who want to stay with their feet on the ground and the cabins of the Bazange pond (Périgord Pourpre) those who don’t leave without their fishing rod.
And then, at Ventoulines in Domme (Périgord Noir), a new atypical accommodation is being built: the Lovnid. It is a round wooden room, shaped like a drop of water, which hangs in a tree. A dream night for lovers who will wake up with their eyes to each other and their ears to the sounds of birdsong.
In the meantime, our Key West and its private spa on the edge of the forest already offers a completely unusual stay.
You see: if there is a department that will make your task easier to prepare for your atypical stay, it is the Dordogne!
